Geography

–         Canada occupies the northern part of North America

–         It shares land borders with the United States to the south and with Alaska to the northwest

–         The Great Lakes in the south (Lake Michigan, Lake Erie, Ontario, Lake Superior, Huron…)

  • A member of EU and OECD, not a member of NATO but participates in operations of OSN
  • Very high Human Development Index (something like a standard of living)
  • Spans across 70,273 km2, with population of 4,581,269 people

Geography:

–          mostly flat area in the midlands, ringed by mountain ranges

–          highest point is Carrauntoohil located in the Macgillycuddy’s Reeks

–          other notable mountain ranges are the Wicklow Mountains in the east also known as the Dublin Mountains

–          western coastline is rugged, with many islands, peninsulas, headlands and bays

–          central lowlands are covered with glacial deposits of clay and sand, as well as significant areas of bogland (rašeliniště) and several lakes such as Lough Derg and Lough and Lough Ree

–          longest river is the River Shannon flowing through Limerick and Central Plain
