  • Population: 32, 4 million
  • It has 10 provinces (British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec,

 

New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador) and 3 territories (Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut)

  • A member of G7, Commonwealth, NATO,…
  • The head of state is Elizabeth II.
  • Many little islands in the north belong to Canada too
  • Official sport is ice hockey
  • Geography

–         Canada occupies the northern part of North America

–         It shares land borders with the United States to the south and with Alaska to the northwest

–         In the east there is Atlantic ocean, in the west Pacific ocean, in the north Arctic ocean

–         Forests cover almost half of Canada

–         The Great Lakes in the south (Lake Michigan, Lake Erie, Ontario, Lake Superior, Huron…)

–         Famous Niagara Falls are located between the Lake Ontario and the Lake Erie

–         Rivers: St. Lawrence (which flows through the lakes and empties into the Atlantic Ocean) or Mackenzie (flowing into the Arctic Ocean)

–         Canada has also high mountain ranges, such as the Rocky Mountains and the Mackenzie Mountains

–         The highest mountain is Mt. Logan (5961 m)

–         Many national parks –  Jasper National Park

–         system of volcanoes is called Pacific Ring of Fire

–         Canada is the world’s second-largest country in total area, after Russia

Ireland

  • The Republic of Ireland is a parliamentary democracy
  • The capital is Dublin

  • The country is on the island of Ireland which is to the west of the United Kingdom
  • It has a border with only one country and it is the UK, Northern Ireland in particular
  • The Irish Sea separates it from Great Britain and the Celtic Sea from Europe, in the west there is Atlantic Ocean
  • Official languages are English and Irish
  • Their currency is Euro
  • A member of EU and OECD, not a member of NATO but participates in operations of OSN
  • Very high Human Development Index (something like a standard of living)
  • Spans across 70,273 km2, with population of 4,581,269 people
  • Geography:

–          mostly flat area in the midlands, ringed by mountain ranges

–          highest point is Carrauntoohil located in the Macgillycuddy’s Reeks

–          other notable mountain ranges are the Wicklow Mountains in the east also known as the Dublin Mountains

–          western coastline is rugged, with many islands, peninsulas, headlands and bays

–          central lowlands are covered with glacial deposits of clay and sand, as well as significant areas of bogland (rašeliniště) and several lakes such as Lough Derg and Lough and Lough Ree

–          longest river is the River Shannon flowing through Limerick and Central Plain

–          is temperate and it rains very often

–          influence of the Gulf Stream

–          red fox, European hedgehog, stoat (Lasice hranostaj), Irish hare (Zajíc bělák)

–          In foreign countries the Irish population is higher than in Ireland

–          Food processing industry, chemical industry, electronics

–          Extraction of lead, zinc, peat, natural gas, silver
