Ever since I was a little girl I’ve read a lot of books. I really love to drift away into the fantasy world of a book. This is what I think the best about reading but there are other advantages about reading. Let me describe a few advantages why I find reading books cool!
To begin with it’s very relaxing. You can sit down at a quiet place and just forget about the world around you for a while. Sometimes when I feel like I have a million things to do I take a break, make a cup of tea and cuddle up in the corner of the sofa with a good book. After just a little while of reading I’ve got my strength up to take care of everything. It’s also a great way to calm down before going to bed.
Secondly you can bring a book with you almost everywhere. It doesn’t matter if you’re on the subway, on the bus, on the beach or on a journey. There’s always room for a book in the bag.
Furthermore there are so many different kinds of books. You can vary between reading novels with a lot of love or more educational books. Personally I think you can learn something in every book. It’s really funny to try to identify with the characters of the book and to imagine the environment. I think reading develops the brain and gives you the ability to understand other people. Besides, you develop your language if you read a lot because you learn new words all the time.
Now, I would like to talk about book, which I have chosen – Every living thing.
This book was written by James Herriot and first published in 1992 in London. The book tells a story of veterinary surgeon and his life and everyday experiences from his work. This book is autobiography and memoirs with humorous stories. James Herriot is the main character of this book. Kind-hearted, caring and honest veterinary surgeon.
During his years of working as a country vet in Yorkshire, James Herriot has seen huge advances in medical science and technological leaps in operating practise. The world was drastically changed by the II. world war. Yet some things have always stayed the same – rude farmers, hypochondriac pet owners and animals, who sometimes were not eager to cooperate. From start as a young man in first job in the 1930s, to an experienced veterinary surgeon, married with 2 children. James has spent his entire life among the people and animals of Yorkshire Dales. And there and nowhere else he would rather be.
James Herriot’s memoirs since they were first published, have sold millions of copies and captivated generations of animal lovers. Charming, funny and touching every living thing is a heart-warming story of determination, love and friendship from one of the Britain’s best-loved author.
Let me tell you something about the author. James Alfred Wight, better known by his authors name James Herriot, was a British veterinary surgeon and writer. He was born on 3rd of October in 1916 in Sunderland, County Durham in England. He graduated from Glasgow Veterinary College in 1939, returning to England, to become a veterinary surgeon in Yorkshire, where he practised for almost 50 years. He is best known for writing this series of eight books, which are set in Yorkshire Dales in the years 1930s to 1950s. They are about veterinary practise, his family and his colleges, friends, animals and their owners and beautiful countryside in Yorkshire.
James Herriot died on 23rd of February 1995.
The first reason why I have chosen this book is because I love animals. When I was little I would play pretending to be vet for hours. The other reason for choosing this book is that this book is an easy reading, has funny, nice and memorable stories, happy endings and good humour plus I prefer nonfiction. I could not put the book down, I really liked it.
To sum up, I find this book is amazing. I think it would be great read for anyone who likes animals, short funny stories and easy positive reading. I would recommend this book to people who are feeling sad and blues in these difficult times, it will cheer them up and they will see the world better.
