World of culture

The definition of culture is very long and complicated. Culture consists of art, styles of dress, language, rules of behaviour, religion, technology or political and economic systems. We know culture only as art, literature and music. I’m going to speak about these fields.

At first, there’re many types of entertainment. We can go to the cinemas, to the theatres, on the concerts and festivals. Every bigger town offers some culture events. Among teenagers the discos are very popular. We can find them not only in big cities, but in every village. There are local music groups which hold the concerts in smaller towns. In Hronov is Discos as well

Cinema

The cinemas are very popular among adults and teenagers. In Hronov we used to have a Cinema but now we do not, when I want to see some films I have to go to Náchod. I go to cinema about four times a year, i like it but it is a little bit expensive. Last film I saw is Iron Man 3.

Czech films and film directors are more famous than it seems. The new wave was the period of the biggest boom of film. It began in 1960s with well-known directors such as Miloš Forman, Jiří Menzel and Věra Chytilová. Forman was awarded by Oscar for his film” Ostře sledované vlaky“. The Czech film industry also has a strong tradition of animated and puppet films. Among the most popular are those produced by Jiří Trnka and Karel Zeman. We have a unique telewiev. We call it Večerníček. It’s a short fairy-tale, mostly animated, for children before they go to bed.

Films: comedy, black comedy, romantic, adventure, thriller, horror, detective story, catastrophic, fairy tale, animated, sitcom, action, sci-fi

When I’m going there it must be really good film. Especially I like comedies and action films and i hate horrors.

In the cinema, the screen is a little bit bigger, the sound is better. There are a lot of people, it‘s not comfortable. (Not today)

TV – more comfortable, you can sit, lie, eat, do what you want, the screen is small, you are alone.

The last film I have seen was Iron man III. I like this trilogy so me and my girlfriend went. It was in summer and it was in cinema in Náchod.

It was amazing experience because film was amazing but also was in 3D and I have never seen film in 3D before. We were really stunned! But the truth is we had a headache after.

Theatre

I don’t go to the theatre very often. In Hronov we have got famous Jirasek Theatre. You can buy tickets at the box stall, ticket office, through school or work, you can have a reservation.

Men should put on a suit or dinner jacket, shirt, shoes, tie or bow tie; they can have scarf or hat.

Women can wear dress, costume, skirt, blouse, shoes.

The nearest theatre is in Hronov, there is a Jirásek´s theater. Every year in the summer in August takes place Jirásek´s Hronov. It is a festival of Czech amateur theatre with international participation. Our town provides opportunity to see theatre performances. My mum often attends but without me.

If you do for example to a small theatre (Arena), you don’t have to wear anything special.

In a large town you can usually find one or more theatres.  You can choose the performance according to its director, actors or genre. It can be a drama, a comedy, an opera, a musical or a ballet. It is better to buy a ticket in advance, because the best performances are sold very quickly. Going to the theatre is a social event so it is expected to dress up in the best clothes. People can leave their coats in the cloakroom and an attendant usually shows them their seats. Between acts in intermission it is possible to buy refreshment in the theatre bar. When the performance is over the audience applauds and when the people think that the performance was especially brilliant it can be time for standing ovation.

I saw many performances, we often used to go to Klicperovo Theater in HK and there a have seen for example Figaro’s wedding, it was very funny and like I the most. Two years ago we were in Prague and we saw Jesus Christ superstar, it is rock musical and there were staring many famous Czech singers. It might have been better than Figaro’s wedding.

The centre of cultural activity in UK is London. The majority of the theatres are situated near the West End. Among them exceed (vynikat) the National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company.

USA:

The USA is a candle of many music styles. In the south near New Orleans was born jazz in 1920s. The centre of culture is NY. His parts Broadway and Harlem are centres of entertainment. Broadway is known for musicals and theatres. Harlem Renaissance is also known as the New Negro Movement. It is the name given to the period from the end of World War I and through the middle of the 1930s Depression, during which a group of talented African-American writers produced a sizable (značný) body of literature in the four prominent genres of poetry, fiction, drama, and essay. Swing, foxtrot was born in the USA, too.

Hollywood is a centre of film industry. The most famous directors are Steven Spielberg (The Jaws, The Jurassic Park) and George Lucas (Star Wars). There’re many famous actors, actresses, models… The golden age of film was in 1920s – the era of Marilyn Monroe and Charlie Chaplin.

Theatres in our country and in England

CZ – Prague – National, Stavovske, Spiral, Pyramid, Lucerna, Husa na Provázku, Tyl t, Vinohrady t, Semafor, Divadlo na Zábradlí, Viola…)

Ostrava – Moravskoslezské d, Dvořákovo d, Myronovo d, Petr Bezruč t, Aréna…

GB – National t, Globe, The Royal Shakespeare Company, Old Vic, The Royal Albert Hall

In the cultural house dancing lessons and balls are also held. 4 year ago I took dancing lessons there too. We learned both standard dances, such as the polka, waltz, foxtrot or tango and Latin American ones such as the jive, cha cha and modern dances. I am quite  very good dancer and I go to dance to a ball very often.

When I am home I usually listen to the radio and I have no chance to watch TV because we got only one at home and my mum with my sisters watch their programmes! But now I do not mind, i have got more time to doing another things, for example reading or playing PC games.

CONCERTS

I have never been to a concert of classical music. I don‘t hear this kind of music but it doesn‘t have to be bat. It can be good for relax. This kind or concerts takes place in special concert halls, opera houses, with special background. You have to wear dinner jacket or suit, tie, shoes… I visited some rock concerts that was organized near hear and they all were perfect. The music is too loud, there is smell too much people, but when you listen to the music you like you don‘t mind it. This concert takes place in some halls, stadiums or just opens air; the tickets cost the same as the tickets for theatre for example. I visited for example Majáles and RfP in HK. It was amazing but very expensive for me (beer).

MUSIC AND MUSICAL INSTUMENTS

To our culture we include music and musical concerts too.
Even if we are not concertgoers and experts in the fine arts, we live in the world surrounded by music. We come into contact with music all our lives. When we are little, we listen to lullabies sung by our mother and soon we try to sing some songs ourselves. When we reach school age many of us take some music lessons at a music school. If we have musical talent, in a few years we can learn to play a musical instrument fairly well. Many children start playing the piano or a wind instrument such as the recorder, the pipe, the flute, the clarinet, the oboe or the bassoon, or they blow a trumpet, play the accordion or a string instrument. Teenagers often start to play the guitar, the banjo, the bass, the drums or the keyboard and many of them dream of founding a band and giving concerts to a large audience. At the age of 16 or 17 many young people also take dancing lessons and develop a liking for dance music. But most of us remain only listeners to music.
