Education system is state from state different. I’d like to talk about system in UK, in USA and in Czech republic.
In Great Britain, firstly, children must to go in a nursery school. They’re going there from 3 to 5 years. After that, they must to go to the primary school. It has two forms: infant school and junior school. Infant school is for 5 to 8 years old children and junior school for 8 to 11 years old. Both are obligatory and there are three core subjects – English, Math and Science. But there are a lot of additional subjects like design, history, geography or music. Then, there is Secondary school. It’s from 11 to 16 years old or from 11 to 18 years old. Boarding secondary school depends on your primary school results. So when you have good results, you don’t need to take any exams. There are different types: grammar school, classical school, prepare for university or secondary technical school (there are technical subjects). At the age of 16, there’s graduate from school – it means you must to take GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education). You can take up to 7 subjects in GCSE. In age from 16 to 18, there is so-called college of sixth form, where you must to take A level exams. Students who gain good results can choose higher education. There’s also college of further education – technical, general and vocation training – preparation for special professional exams. After this all, you can go to the university. You can choose there more than 150 subjects. There are also degrees: First is Bachelor – you must study 3 or 4 years, than Master – 1 or 2 years, and Doctor – 2 or 3 years.
In USA, first you must go to the Kindergarten. It’s for 4 and 5 years old children. They are prepared for other study (for example the play games or learn numbers and letters). Then, there is Elementary school. It’s from 5 to 12 years old. But in some states isn’t middle school, so elementary is until 8th form (15 years old). After that is High school (from 8th to 12th form). There’s a lot of elective subjects and is ended by SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test). It’s also standardized test for college admissions. There are also some types of high school: Academic – preparation for college, Vocational – fits them for employment or for further training in various fields, and general combines – combination of both. After all is university, where is the same system like in UK.
Now, I’d like to talk about Czech republic. First, you must to go to nursery school, it’s from 3 to 6 years old. There are children prepared from primary school. Primary school has two forms – First and Second form. First form is for 6 to 11 years old and Second for 11 to 15 years old. All subjects are obliged and in the end of every single year students receive reports. Than, there’s Secondary school. It’s for 15 to 19 years old and there’s also some types: grammar school – four-year-studium which is continuation of primary school. You must take school-leaving exam, which consists of 4 subjects – 2 national and 2 profile. Than, there’s high school – it’s for-year-studium too and there are special subjects like art or technical. Next type is training centre – it’s three-year-studium and it’s preparation for a job, for example cook or bricklayer. The last type is conservatory, which focuses on art or music. After this all, there’s university, also called college. There’s also some degrees: Bachelor – you must study 3 years, Master – 2 years, and Doctor – from 3 to 8 years. It’s ended by Graduation from school, which is called graduation ceremony.
