Education system in UK(compulsory (povinný): 5 – 16)
Pre-education(0 – 4)
- Children younger then five years go to the nursery schools or nursery classes.
- Children in these schools rather play then learning.
Primary school(5 – 11)
- From five to eleven years is the first compulsory school attendance (účast).
- Primary school is divided into „infant (dítě) school“- for children from the 5 to 7 and „junior school“- for the children from the 7 to 11.
- Students in primary schools are called „ pupils“.
Secondary school(12 – 16)
- Secondary schools begins at 11 years and ends (mostly) at 16 years.
- Most schools are universal (všeobecné), but sometimes you can find „selective schools“. These schools accept new students based on the entrance test.
- Grammar schools – gympl
- Secondary modern school/ Secondary technical school – SŠO
- Comprehensive – for immigrants and their children(přistěhovalec)
- Pupils take GCSE at A-level(=MATURITA) = general certificate of Education, mixture of cause and written works -> pupils must have it, if they want to the UNI
Further education(16 +)
- Next education is for the persons who are older then 16 years.
- These schools are called „college“.
- Some schools are free but some schools are charged (placeny).
Higher education
- Higher education is education which includes education at the university.
- First part is „undergraduate course“, which lasts (trvá) 3 years and in end you receive title (BA).
- Second part is post „Postgraduate course“, which includes „masters degree“.(MSc, DSc – Doctor of Science)
- Open university = for students working in their homes(within entrance exams), do exercises at home throw the internet
Education system in USA(compulsory: 6 – 18)
– USA hasn’t got united system of education, every state has ones, but similar
– In US school are big problems with violence and criminality

- Than they can go to universites
Higher education
- The most prestigious and expensive are Harvard, Yale,Princeton(northeast)(member of family)
- Higher education is education which includes education at the university.
- 2-year colleges for vocational(odborný) training
- 4-year colleges and UNI for academic degrees
Education system of Czech Republic(compulsory: 6 – 15)
Školka (3 – 6)
- Školka is the first school in the education system in theCzechRepublic.
- Školka is for the children from the 3 years to the 6 years.
- Children in the školka do same things as in theUKnursery schools.
Základní škola
- After the školka children in the CZ must go to the elementary school = compulsory.
- Elementary school has 9 years. We have universal elementary schools or language elementary schools.
Střední škola
- Střední škola, it is like High school in theUSA, it is after elementary school.
- You can go to the gymnasium or Secondary technical schools = SOŠ -> economics, Secondary vocational schools = SOU -> hairdressers)).
- Střední škola ends with graduate = maturita exam.
Vysoká škola
- University is the last part of the education system in the CZ. University usually has 3-4 (Bc.), 4-6 (Mgr.) or more years (Dc.).
- Many kinds of universities are very different.
