V této kapitole se dozvíte rozdíl mezi předložkami by, with, among a between.
1) Between nebo among
- V angličtině máme dvě předložky s významem „mezi“. Vysvětlíme si, kdy se používá předložka between a kdy among.
Předložka between má význam „mezi přesně dvěma objekty“ (mohou to být věci, osoby apod.)
- She was sitting between Kate and Ann.
- There is a bridge between two beautiful towns.
Předložka among znamená „mezi více než dvěma objekty“.
- Mrs. Jackson is the greatest teacher among us.
- There are a lot of famous people among her friends.
2) By nebo with
- V trpném rodě (Passive Voice) často musíme vybírat mezi předložkami by nebo with. Význam těchto předložek však není stejný.
Předložka by uvádí, kdo nebo co způsobilo nějaký děj.
- The bridge has been repaired by your brother (your brother has repaired the bridge).
- She was noticed … by the teacher yesterday (the teacher noticed her yesterday).
Předložka with popisuje nástroj, pomocí kterého děj byl způsoben.
- The bridge has been repaired with the best equipment (somebody used the best equipment to repair the bridge).
- The front door was opened with the key (somebody used the key to open the front door).
