Otázka: Important issues in the world today
At the moment we have many burning issues in our world. For example terrorism, racism, diseases or poverty. And I would like to talk about them now.
Now let’s start with terrorism, because it is the current problem all over the world, not just in Syria as many people might think. Everyone remebers terrorist attacks in Paris, November last year where about 130 people died. But it’s not only Islamic State, who spreads the fear of terrorism and war. Another terrorist organization which deserves to be mentioned is Al-Qaeda which is probably responsible for the attacks on the 11th of September 2001 in NYC. Luckily after Osama bin Laden has been killed in 2011, the organization nowadays is not as active and dangerous as it used to be. From Europe, I can mention some terrorist organizations such as ETA in the Basque Country in Spain or IRA in Ireland.
Another hot topic is racism which is sometimes connected with terrorism and wars. Racism means problem with people of different race, color of skin, nationality or different ethnic origin and the resulting hate of those people. Racism is really dangerous , because it can lead to things like murders or exploitations and sometimes even to armed conflicts. It’s necessary to fight against it, because when it spreads for a long time, it won’t be good, as we could see on the example from the USA in the American Civil War or Apartheid in the South Africa.
Nowadays in the media we often hear about diseases. The most current one is Zika virus, escpecially in Brazil, where summer olympic games should take place this year. It is spread by mosquitoes and it can spread from a pregnant woman to the baby. This may result in severe brain problems. Another dangerous diseases we can hear about are obesity or cancer. Many charitable organisations together with red cross try to prevent and help people in the whole world, especially in developed countries.
The next issue I would like to talk about is poverty. Together with diseases it’s the worst problem in Africa. People often have no money to buy food or to pay tuition-fee for their children. Many of them don’t even have access to water and it makes their situation even worse. For us, it is quit unimaginable, but for them it’s daily routine and they used to live like that, without any complaints.
To sum it up, I think the world and governments don’t do enough to solve all those problems. I know it is not easy, but not impossible to find out some solutions how to help poor countries or how to fight against terrorism and maybe once to stop it finally.
