Dear Mr. Johnson,
excuse me, but I wasn’t able to hand in my essay in time, due to my ilness. I was absent for two weeks and I had no idea, that the deadline for handing it in was tomorrow.
Now I have lots of things to do. That is why I would need more time to do it. Could I bring the essay later?
