The Czech Republic has a mild climate. Summer temperatures usually don’t exceed 25-30 degrees centigrade and in winter seldom fall lower than 10 degrees below zero. The year is divided into four seasons:spring, summer, autumn and winter. Each season lasts about three months and is attractive in some way.
Spring begins on 21th March. Many people consider spring the most beautiful season of the year. Nature begins to awake from its long winter sleep and new life begins. Nights get shorter and days get longer. There is more sunshine and it becomes warmer and warmer. In gardens and woods the first flowers soon appear.
The weather in spring, especially in April, is really unpredictable and changeable. The temperature is often below zero at night, while the days may be quite warm.
June 21st is the date when summer begins. Children love this season best because they have two months of holidays. The temperature rises to 25 degrees or more. In the morning there is often dew, the sky is clear and bright, it is sunny, no wind blows. Sometimes we suffer from a heat wave; the weather is so hot and dry that even the water in pools and rivers is too warm to bring refreshment to swimmers. In the summer rain often comes in the form of a storm. It can be very sudden, the sky clouds over, temperature cools; a breeze changes into a strong wind. Then there is a crash of thunder and a flash of lightning, followed by a heavy downpour or even a hail.
At the beginning of September the school year begins and summer is over. On September 23,d autumn begins. In autumn the sun rises later and sets earlier and days get shorter. The weather begins to change, but we can still enjoy several nice days. It’s the time of harvest; people pick apples, pears and plums as well as gather potatoes and sugar beets. We are Delighted with the colours of fall in the woods, as leaves become yellow, orange, brown and red and make a lovely contrast with evergreen.
In autumn the weather is unsettled, the sky is often cloudy, mornings are foggy. It usually does not clear up by day. As the temperature continues to drop, it becomes damp, chilly, wet and rainy and it may drizzle. People usually don’t like this weather and thev feel deoressed.
According to the calendar, winter comes on December 21st, but in fact it often begins earlier. Typical winter weather brings snowfall, icy wind and hard frosts. The temperature is usually below zeero. If people go out without caps and mittens or gloves, they can suffer from frostbite. The roads become icy and slippery and it makes driving hazardous, because you can skid easily.
