Yes or no to a vegetarian diet? (pro and against essay)
Vegetarianism is becoming more and more common in the modern world, as people realize and better understand the potential perks of not eating meat. However, every diet has its own downside. What being a vegetarian really means and why you should or should not become one?
A vegetarian diet aims to cut out the meat and move towards a more plant-based diet. Some believe that this could be potentially unhealthy for your body due to the lack of certain nutrients such as protein, fat, iron, and so on. In order to prevent that you need to incorporate some new products into your diet like protein-rich beans and tofu. Another major argument against becoming a vegetarian is that this lifestyle is just not convenient since your options in choosing a meal in a restaurant or doing groceries are limited. However, the fact that vegetarianism has gained this much popularity resulted in more and more restaurants and stores stocking a wider range of vegetarian food.
On the other hand, a plant-based diet could be a great way to start losing weight because it is consistently lower in calories and saturated fats than a meat-based diet. Although you can manage weight loss without being a vegetarian it is proven that even cutting out meat once or twice a week can significantly help. Another reason to decrease meat consumption and adopt a vegetarian diet is the positive impact it can have on the environment. The demand for mass-produced meats contributes massively to deforestation and CO2 emissions and leads to global warming getting worse.
To sum it up, there are lots of excellent health, lifestyle, and environmental benefits to becoming a vegetarian. People need to be more educated about this topic and encouraged to give up meat but at the end of the day, it is still one’s choice to do so.
